Built in 1716, this was originally an outpost designed to guard against Spanish forces moving in to the French Louisiane. Later, after the French lost to the English, the fort came into Spanish control, and was used as a trade center for a few years before it was abandoned. This site marks the location where an unknown Confederate soldier was killed by three Union cavalrymen in the Civil War era.
